Structural Engineering

Structural engineers work with architects and builders to assure that steel and other material used in construction projects exceeds the needs of a given project. Structural engineering is an area within civil engineering, dealing with the effects of variable repeated loads on structures, crash worthiness of structures, design criteria, structural steel connections, buckling of concrete panels and high-strength concrete, and timber structural members and systems.

Design considerations will include strength, stiffness, and stability of the structure when subjected to loads which may be static, such as furniture or self-weight, or dynamic, such as wind, seismic, crowd or vehicle loads, or transitory, such as temporary construction loads or impact.
