YOU CAN GET SMASHED AND RAGE ALL NIGHT LONG THIS YEAR AT THE VOODOO FEST
The ninth annual Voodoo Music Experience has been expanded to three days this year so that two huge groups from the nineties could each headline a night on their own. Rage Against the Machine, which has only played a handful of dates this year, the Coachella Festival in California being the highlight, will headline one of the nights of the festival which runs from Friday, October 26th to Sunday, October 28th. Smashing Pumpkins, who have also just recently re-formed and have not performed in more than eight years will also headline one weekend show.
Some other less notable acts that should put on amazing live sets during this year Voodoo Fest include Wilco, Fall Out Boy, the Black Crowes, Kings of Leon, Common, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, La Coka Nostra featuring Everlast and members of House of Pain , Coheed and Cambria, Gym Class Heroes, and Zap Mama.
LOCAL BANDS AND MUSICIANS FROM NEW ORLEANS WILL ALSO PLAY
The Voodoo Fest also will feature dozens of New Orleans musicians, including Dr. John, Galactic featuring Mr. Liff and Lyrics Born, Mute Math, Rotary Downs, Ghost, the New Orleans Social Club, Henry Butler, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, the Bingo Show !, Liquidrone, George Porter Jr., Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Theresa Andersson, Big Sam's Funky Nation, Ivan Neville's DumpstaPhunk, the Morning 40 Federation, Bonerama, the Hot 8 and Soul Rebels brass bands, and Amanda Shaw.
AFTER TRAGEDY, VOODOO FEST BROUGHT HAPPINESS
After the horrible devastation that Hurricane Katrina brought to the New Orleans area a few year ago, the Voodoo Fest was the first major musical event that dared to mount their annual music fest for the New Orleans Community even though a lot of the power stations in the area continued to give the promoters trouble by shutting down every hour or so.
That goodwill that was generated by the Voodoo Fest promoters brought a lot of respect from the many musicians who continue to bring their talents to the Voodoo Fest every year. Nine Inch Nails and the New York Dolls donated their services free of charge the year that Voodoo Fest brought back the spirit of New Orleans that fateful year, and hundreds of tickets were given away for free to local fans in the Louisiana area who needed their spirits lifted in the worst way imaginable.
VOODOO FEST DESTINED TO BECOME BIGGER EVERY YEAR
Last year the Voodoo Fest was moved to a new City Park site in New Orleans where it gained a new audience of 90,000 people, making 2006 the biggest and most successful concert in Voodoo Fest history. Since the popularity of that two day event which featured Duran Duran and the Red Hot Chili Peppers turned into such a behemoth, the concert promoters of Voodoo Fest decided to turn this year event into a three-day extravaganza which will allow everybody to see every type of band in the musical spectrum that has been such a huge selling point in fans paying large amounts of money to attend this stellar event.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE WILL HELP SHINE A SPOTLIGHT ON THE HORRIBLE CIRCUMSTANCES STILL AFFLICTING NEW ORLEANS
The explosive nature and controversy that follows Rage Against the Machine everywhere they go will certainly play a huge part in getting the message out that New Orleans still needs quite a bit of help in recovering from the catastrophic blow that Hurricane Katrina dealt this amazing city back in August of 2005.
Steve Rehage, whose New Orleans / New York company, Rehage Entertainment, produces Voodoo Fest every year was looking for a band that could help get American citizens charged up about continuing to help the poor citizens in the Louisiana area find food and shelter after the Bush administration turned it's backs to them and has so far offered up little compensation in the form of disaster relief funds.
Tom Morello, Rage's main songwriter, even wrote a song about the Katrina aftermath entitled "Midnight in the City of Destruction" which gives a full description of the sense of loss and frustration that Morello wrote about his own feelings after seeing the events take place on television. Rehage firmly believes that Rage Against the Machine will not hold their tongues with they get on stage and start venting their political views against the major injustices that the Bush administration have inflicted on all of America's citizens, but also primarily on the New Orleans region.
The Voodoo Fest promoters will not give out the daily schedule of the event until September, but you will be able to buy three-day passes for the Voodoo fest beginning June 29th at 9:00 AM for $ 100. For many concert-goers through out the US, that $ 100 is a small price to pay for three days of musical heaven.
