St Barts Weather – Best and Worst Months to Go

St. Barts weather will deliver warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine throughout most of the year — except for a few key months.

The island of St. Barts, also known as Saint Barthélemy, is part of a collectivity of France that makes up the French West Indies in the southeastern Caribbean.

The four territories making up the collectivity are St. Barts, St. Martin, Guadeloupe and Martinique.

St. Martin is actually part of one island. The other part is Sint Maarten, which is controlled by the Netherlands and a part of the Netherland Antilles.

St. Barts, which is only eight square miles in size, shares much of the same weather with St. Martin because they are only 20 miles apart. On a clear day, visitors on one island can see the other island in the distance.

The average high temperature is about 87 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year, according to statistics from the World Weather Organization.

The average high temperature varies by only a few degrees each month. It reaches a low point in January of 83 degrees and a high point of 89 degrees in July through September.

The average low temperatures occur mainly at night.

Their low point is 74 degrees from January through March. Their high point is 79 degrees from July through September.

Average Rainfall

Rain is a major factor in planning Caribbean vacations because of the annual hurricane season, which lasts from June 1 until Nov. 30.

The National Oceanic and Aviation Administration tracks average storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean:

  • June – 1 tropical storm
  • July – 3 storms, 2 become hurricanes
  • August – 3 storms, two become hurricanes
  • September – 4 storms, two become hurricanes
  • October – 4 storms, few rarely become hurricanes
  • November – infrequent storms

Few of these storms and hurricanes hit any island directly. Most of the time, the islands experience an indirect impact in the form of heavy rain and winds.

The area that includes St. Barts usually has about two to three inches of rain per month from January through July, then four inches in August, five in September, four in October, six inches in November and four in December.

Best Months to Go

The best months for St. Barts weather are January through July. The worst month to go clearly is November.

Despite these averages, early fall to early winter has a higher risk of bad weather and that time of the year should be avoided.
